RIDE LIKE YOU MEAN IT

Re: Cycling to work "Remember you have equal right to the other road users. so never cycle apologetically timid riding invites abuse."

Fair enough, but what about the cyclists who swerve through traffic (without helmets!) and are a bit of a nightmare when you're driving in the city? It's all well & good being confident & knowing your rights on the road (as a horse rider who hacks out on roads I am very aware of this!) but it only takes a few to tar many, and over-cocky cyclists are particularly dangerous in cities.

Re: Hip hop in Scotland - Taking the mic l have been highly amused by the reaction of certain members of the hip hop community over this. To claim that the writer cannot know Scottish hip hop because he has omitted certain people from his list is arrogant and ignorant to the core. regardless of what you think of the artists included.

What's funny is that no-one seems to have noticed this list isn't even a 'top ten', it's just a list of ten artists the writer considers bright hopes for the scene (even if Hydro has been included). The responses to this on the linked forum highlights the main problem with the scene as I see it. Artists at the forefront of pushing the scene (eg Hud Mo) make music for the people. pushing artistic integrity while keeping the party alive. People who have been offended by not making this list make music for their peers and mates. with no consideration for what the vast majority of the listening public want to listen to.

I, as a listener and not an artist. find so much Scottish hip hop boring. offensive. depressing. same old same old. Just because you have rhyming talent doesn't mean anyone wants to listen to anything you say. What happened to the party? I'll tell you what happened. You stabbed it. It's dead. You killed it. Thanks a

Bruce Springsteen Marvel as we spend a whole issue trying to resist using the term ‘Brucie bonus' in the run up to the Boss’ highly anticipated first Scottish show in over a decade. light touch. clarity and a sometimes idiOSyncratic approach to syntax (which can be annoying at times). This collection however was, for the most part. baffling, and the

1 reason why short story collections are so unpopular with readers who have no literary academic background (like me).

At the end of almost every

story I was left thoroughly dissatisfied and confused. Experimentation for experimentation's sake might impress a few highbrow Guardian readers. but l'd imagine most people would be left feeling thoroughly short- changed after this.

I think Free Love. an earlier book, is a much better and more accessible collection T Vision Comment posted at List.co.uk

TEENAGE DAYDREAM

Re: Exposure - Sing It Loud Sadly they were a bit rubbish live and were completely overshadowed by Cobra Starship who were brilliant! At least the screaming tiny teenage girls seemed to cheer them up. Morna

MIXED MESSAGES

Re: The Vaselines - Enter the Vaselines album

Not bad. but why they remixed all the original studio recordings. I'll never know. Sure. they sound a lot more 'rock‘ but this was unnecessary. The Vaselines were rock enough for my taste and I'll love them forever either way. Thanks SubPop!
