Re: Edinburgh Television Fesfival
Year on year it seems the Edinburgh International TeIeVision Festival seems to grow in stature. attracting an increasing number of frontrunners from the teIeVision world. Case in point this year. when The Wire's DaVid Simon and Ant. Dec and Amanda Holden rock into town. So why then isn't it open to the public? We pay our licence. and as one who has no interest in theatre or film or any of the other festivals on in Edinburgh over the summer, this is one I'd actually want to go to.

Re: Electric Circus
It is about time Edinburgh got a new live music venue: With the destruction of The Venue (RIP) to turn it into yet ANOTHER Gallery. Electric Circus is a welcome addition to the Edinburgh music scene. The Liquid Ftoom will be back with a vengeance eventually: in the meantime. I am loving Electric Circus: it's funky. it's edgy and I can't wait to spend many a night listening to two artists give it their all there.

LETTER OF THE FORTNIGHT
HILLHEAD(ACHE)
Zephyr Cam Glasgow
Surely the West End Festival is greatly downgraded by the organisers for is it perhaps the comcds'?) failure to completely close Byres Road for the day. The multi-stage music day was. for many. the main highlight of the whole festival. During the oeurse of the afternoon it was possible to listen to 20 or more Glasgow bands strutting their stuff for big. appreciative audiences. I hope the Merchant City organisers take note and don't make the same mistake. It must be just as disappointing for Byres Road businesses as it is for music lovers.

Re: Doug Johnstone
Why is Doug Johnstone repeatedly allowed to write about the Fence Collective? Last time I checked Johnstone's band Northern Alliance was signed to Fence. Is this not the Journalistic equivalent of insider trading? Have you no regard for good old-fashioned values like professional bias and integrity? Juliet Lewis

Doug Johnstone is just one of the many List contributors who
have written about Fence over the years for us. He is a highly respected, award- Winning writer and we commission him because of the experience and insight he brings to the topics he covers. Fence included. we are certain there is no bias.

Re: Festivals issue
After reading so many features about festivals in the past months. I want to say how much I enioyed the lltCItlSlOlt of festival fashion in your special. It was a change from the usual
deluge of festivals; and gave me some pretty good ideas for my summer wardrobe.

HARD TO SWALLOW Re: Taste Festival
First up I'd like to say that I think the Taste Festival is in theory a great idea. so as a food lover I was pretty excited about going along for the first time this year. particularly as it was set in the beautiful confines of lnverleith Park.
I didn't object to the entrance fee at all. assuming that the tasters weiild be considerable when I got in there. Not so. Not only did the festival close down in the middle of the day between sessions. but we were only really offered a free drink on arrival before being asked to fork out crowns (20 for $310) for any sort of proper eat and drink. Again, fair enough, but on giving a fiver's worth of crown over we were met WIIII ridiculously small portions: Similarly. at the wine stalls. the glasses were diminutive considering the cash price. Most stalls had samples of some kind but nothing truly mind-blowing. Not an unsavoury experience IUSI surprisingly unsatisfying.

The continued upwards and outwards movement of this mighty festival suggests Scottish music fans' appetite for live outdoor shindigs knows no bounds. This year T embraces its inner pop kid while still having time to rock out and roll around on the (grassy) dancefloor, and The List will be there with you every step of the way.
