How did you get that job?
Nina Honeyman
Audience Development Manager
GGA - an arts marketing and audience development agency. based in Glasgow. GGA works with members and external clients to improve accessibility to arts and cultural events in Scotland.
It's a pretty varied role — no two days are the same. Since joining the company I've worked on a wide range of audience development and research projects. I'm also involved in organising training and networking events. including our annual conference.
The best aspect has to be working as part of a brilliant team of seven - everyone just gets on with the job at hand and we have fun along the way. It's hard to think of the worst aspect, although Audience Development tends to be a difficult line of work to explain to those out with the industry. My granny's still baffled!
" I studied at the University of Strathclyde. In my final year I participated in a Marketing Communications competition, which my team won! As a result. we visited two strategic brand consultancies in New York and gained work experience at DADA. A few months later I spotted the job vacancy (advertised in the List!!) and as they say the rest is history!
‘ ” Show that you're willing to ‘go the extra mile‘ — whether that be gaining work experience, volunteering or even just networking at industry events. Don‘t just rely on a degree to get you the job you want.
Have more faith in yourself! In the early stages of your career everything is so new and a bit daunting that a bit of self belief wouldn‘t go a miss.
A great advantage of my job is that you always know what‘s on and when. Like most people I enjoy different activities with different groups of friends. I love the experience of going to the theatre. particularly if I'm going to see drama. dance or film. Glasgow has so much to choose from - there really is something for everyone!
