Re: Hot 100 (619)
I really enjoyed reading your Hot 100. How about a hot 20 or 30 bands to look out for in 2009’? The unsigned and new band scene in Scotland must be at an all-time high. Bands to look out for might include: Mitchell Museum. Pearl & The Puppets. Futuristic Retro Champions. Jesus H Foxx and Seventeenth Century.

Re: Hot 100 (619)
YOur Hot 100 made for interesting reading. but there i.°.'ere loads of people who could easily hay e been turfed out. \r‘v'hat's Neil Oliver done in 2008’? Apart from being professionally Scottish' when presenting The History of Scotland? Also. much as I love Biffy Clyro. what have they done in 2008’? Not released any records anyway!
The most shocking omission is Davy Henderson. whose new hand The Sexual OI)JOCIS are even hit as good as his previous hands. The Fire Engines. Win and The Nectarine No 9.

I'd love to know the criteria for your Hot 100. If it's to do with artistic or creative achievements. Glasvegas don't even (’leseiye to be l.()()().()()()th on the list. Musically they are completely derivative — the worst parts of Oasis and The Jesus and Mary Chain bolted together and drenched in reverb in an attempt to imbue some grandiosity to proceedings. Lyrically they manage to be arrogant. pretentious and mawkishly sentimental. The first time I heard ‘Daddy's Gone' I didn't know
This is a hand inspired to form when they saw Oasis in 2001. Imagine being inspired by Oasis at all. let alone in their dreadful cocaine-fuelled slump years which even the band themselves admit were piss-poor. I hope next year we can find someone ‘hot' who's got more to offer than shit—awful. tenth rate. embarrassing. derivative. yacuous rock poses and cliches.

Re: Charles Avery (619) Charles Avery s exhibition at the Modern Art Gallery in Edinburgh impressed me hugely. It is witty. highly original and keenly observed. His draftsmanship is painstakingly exact ia r_)otentially stultifying characteristic: yet made to

The set was amazing. It was particularly well cast. espeCIally Lucy. who was a real star. It was light and very funny in parts.

It was certainly a big hit With kids — they couldn't get enough of it. But then again. there really was something for everyone.

It was a very interesting adaptation that really lent menace to the storyline. Very dramatic. Very Lord of the Rings.
appear effortless. and combined with such a freedom of line that it is completely invigorating.
The impact on me of this exhibition reminds me of the way I felt when I TiTSI heard The Beatles. Avery reaches the parts that other artists simply don't. 0rd Adams Comment left at List.co.uk

THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT Re: From The Jam (619)
I went to see From The Jam at Glasgow Barrowland in December and. if anything. they setind even better and tighter than the Jam l idolised and saw six times between 1977 and 1982.
Russell Hastings has a thankless task but replaces Weller brilliantly Without trying to imitate him and Foxton still has the energy of a teenager. A brilliant gig and. even Without Eton Rifles. the set was a magical mix of classic Jam singles and album tracks from all SIX studio albums. And the new single was very good. I loved everything about the gig.
10 10. Great to have you back boys.

Re: Burlesquepades Big Picture (619)
In a fit of haste last issue we omitted to put the name of the photographer on the quite spectaular shot in the Big Picture slot on page 9. His name is Laurence Winram and more of his beautiful photography can be found at wwwlwinramcom. Apologies for the omission.
What do you think would best liven up the Queen's speech?
‘How about her pick of the best music, books and films of the past year then reading out the Christmas Day television highlights.’
NEXT ISSUE: Which cultural anniversary holds most
significance for you in 2009? Burns’ 250th, Darwin’s 200th or
20 years since The Cure’s Disintegration?
