Name Fiona Cole

Job Title Arts Ambassador Officer Company Cumbernauld Theatre When did you start your job? December 2007

What does your job actually involve?

| work with a team of volunteers to build relationships with individuals and communities from all walks of life, and to break down any barriers that impede attendance. We attend local community events such as premieres

to promote the theatre to the public. I also run a team of young ambassadors who chose our Youth Arts Month event Locked In by Half Moon Theatre Company, a hip hop theatre production coming on October 25th.

Best/worst aspects?

It can be tricky keeping track of all the different things ambassadors are doing, but seeing their enjoyment at special events is tremendous. It’s also exciting to see bigger, more diverse audiences trying out works by interesting new artists.

What did you do before you started this job?

I trained as a theatre director at RSAMD, freelanced

in professional and community arts and then took

some time out to travel. Career highlights include a professional development trip to Namibia and South Africa and winning the Arches Award for Stage Directors in 2003.

What’s the host way to get a job like yours?

Have a passion for the arts and get out there and live

it - see shows, volunteer for organisations whose work you admire, and above all, keep seeking out different opportunities. I don’t think many careers officers have “Arts Ambassador" in their books, but you never know what’s out there!

If you could, what advice would you give to a young Fiona at the start. of her career?

Hang in there... the people who make it in the arts have stamina!

And finally . . _.

What’s the: mos-ii original idea you’ve used to get people: through the (ioor zit Cuirihernaulrl Theatre? Free Fererro Rocher for ambassadors’ guests! Though our Christmas production of Aladdin is looking so good, l don’t think we’ll need to tempt audiences in with ambassadors’ chocolates!
