Re: Dundee Guitar Festival I attended the festival with my daughter. It was a fantastic experience for the young and not so young musicians — to see super talented. world class guitarists perform and to work with them in masterclasses: how fantastic! Not so great is that, unless the DGF receives more funding, this may be the last. This would be a tragedy not only for the students and performers from around the world. but for the city of Dundee.

SOUND SENSE Re: sound 2008 (607) Enough of the tyranny of the designers already! If some poncy smartarse in red socks and big glasses thinks capital letters are too 20th century. then let them get on with it. But why does The List think calling a festival ‘sound' instead of ‘Sound' is a good idea? ‘sound has continued to grow,‘ says your quote, ignoring the rule that sentences — as well as festivals — begin with capital letters and giving the impression that it is possible for sound to grow.

A very good film. Very beautiful, and with a great love story. With simple things they made it so emotional.

LETTER OF THE FORTNIGHT
LOL @ BDSM
Cat By email
Re: Pornography preview (607) Steve Cramer is right when he says the language of pornography has infiltrated the mainstream. I don't know if he's right that we all ‘smile knowingly' at the letters BDSM. though. Personally, my smile would be a bit confused. I imagine the SM stands for sado-masochism, but can only guess at the 80. I'd do a Google search only I'm scared of what I might find. Frankly, I'm happier being ignorant (I have enough trouble with GSOH and LOL). but it does bother me the way concepts like pimping, pole-dancing and Playboy have become a normal part of female sexuality. This is not a case of women reclaiming the language of the oppressors in the way that gay and black peOple have turned ‘queer' and 'nigger‘ into words of liberation. Rather, it is an acceptance of the male values of subjugation of women. Using these words is not subversive, it is acquiescent — and women have only got themselves to blame for allowing it to happen. If Simon Stephens' play really does consider our ‘pornographic times'. I'm very much looking forward to seeing it at the Traverse.
