Filmmaker Amir Bar-Lev chronicles the rise and fall of New York-based
child artist Maria Olmstead. Maria was four years old when her middle class parents sold her first abstract painting. Thanks to press coverage she became an overnight sensation, her paintings receiving comparisons to works by modern masters. All may not, however, have been what it seemed in the Olmstead household, and Bar-Lev unpeels this peculiar mystery that plays to our culture's fascination with child prodigies. Fascinating stuff.
