The List have got their heads together with Edinburgh live music venue Cabaret Voltaire for Duty Free, an intiative to try and entice our finest unsigned bands out into the winter cold and onto their stage. The shows take place from Wednesday 16-Monday 28 January and cover all genres of music from rock to folk to electronica. Among those already confirmed to play are Lou Hickey, The Parlotones, The Felt Tips, Luva Anna, Roy‘s Iron DNA, Chutes, Levy and Operahouse. Most importantly, admission to all shows is absolutely free! Bands who fancy the chance to perform at the season of shows in January under the Duty Free banner should follow the instructions below.
Also, readers who would like a say on who should play can go to www.myspace.com/dutyfree2008, listen to the bands nominated and leave a comment as to who they think should be playing. The winners will be announced in a preview of the shows in our issue out Wednesday 16 January. THI

From its quirky Christmas advertising campaigns to its innate sense of fun. The Famous Grouse has become synonymous with wit and humour.
Kicking off in January, the tour will see some of the hottest comedy talent in the country entertaining Famous Grouse drinkers at exclusive gigs across the UK. The Famously Funny Frankie Boyle will welcome in the New Year with a one-off performance at The Stand in Glasgow city centre on 26 January 2008.
