STAGE SHOW SCOOBY DOO LIVE ON STAGE!

King‘s Theatre, Glasgow, Thu 21—Sun 24 Jun; Edinburgh Playhouse, Wed 27—Sat 30 Jun

There are some lines which transcend generations, and ‘I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!’ is certainly one of them. First screened in 1969, Scooby 000 has had an enduring popularity

few can emulate.

Over the years, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and the eponymous dog, Scooby have taken on various guises. Most recently in the live action film starring Sarah Michelle Geller. But when the producers of Scooby 000 Live On Stage transferred the sleuthful gang to the theatre, they wanted

maximum authenticity.

Delving into the Warner Bros sound archives, director Jim Milan blew away 30 years of dust and set to work. ‘We dug up the original orchestral recordings from the TV series,’ says Millan. ‘We then digitised them and incorporated them into the sound design. 80 when the characters walk down the street, or their legs run fast but they don’t move, you hear the same music and sounds as the TV show.’

The show’s plot revolves around Daphne’s uncle, a horror film director working at the derelict Clawhammer lot. Visiting him in their ‘mystery machine’, the kids find themselves in the middle of a spooky whodunit. And, as Millan says, the show’s comedic appeal is far reaching.

‘Each generation has a deep affection for Scooby and Shaggy,’ says Millan. ‘And from the beginning, the producers wanted the stage show to be just as entertaining for parents as it is for kids. I’ve seen children aged 243 up to teenagers and beyond, all laughing at the same joke - which is I think unique to Scooby Doo.’ (Kelly Apter)
