Assistant Arts Development Officer - Temporary

You will support the Arts Development Team in the implementation of a comprehensive programme of arts activities within venues throughout the SOuth Lanarkshire area.
With a strong interest in the arts. you will ideally have a qualification in an arts related discrpline and/or proven experience of the operation and delivery of arts activities at community level. You should be creative in your approach. possess research and project management skills and be able to assist in the delivery of projects across a variety of artforms.
You should have a strong administration. lT and organisational ability. excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be capable of working on y0ur own initiative as well as becoming an integral member of our arts development team.
This post is excepted in terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 2003.

I started w rking for e Gate at the beginning of 2006
A million things! My day to day work is extremely varied. A producer is essentially responsible for coordinating all aspects of a production, from the minute a script comes through the door to the moment the finished film hits the screen. So you start with a script and a budget from an agency and assign a director who will pitch his/her vision for the film. and from there it is all about making it a reality. No two jobs are ever the same. but typically
it involves working with your director in casting actors. scouting locations, hiring crew and gear. post-production — and lots and lots and lots of meetings.
Best aspects are the people I work with — clients. crew and colleagues. It is a great industry with many amazing people. and you are always meeting new faces. I like the fact that I never have a typical week. there are always plenty of challenges and surprises that keep me on my toes and ready to solve the next problem. You learn something new every single day. It's a cliche
but very true.
Before the Gate l was working on the agency side with Newhaven in Edinburgh. which was wonderful. I loved my time there. But the very start I guess was actually assisting the digital producer of Saatchi & Saatchi back in New Zealand! 80 l have always worked in the creative industry in one form or another.
I'd say if you want to work in this industry you must realise it isn‘t all cameras and action — there is a lot of hard work and time away from home. You have to dive in and work your way up. you have to believe in yourself. and sometimes it helps to be thick-skinned! To get a foot in the door it is always a good idea to offer your services for free as a CV alone is unlikely to carry much weight if you have no experience. But if you follow it up with a barrage of phone calls they can't ignore you forever! Also. seek out events that producers. directors. or whoever else y0u think can help you. will be attending and go and introduce yourself. Do your research. know who is who and what they are working on or have recently finished. Most of the time the best way to make an impression is to meet someone in person. not by sending in a CV and hoping one day they'll call. It you want it that bad. make it happen yourself and don't be discouraged if you get a couple of knockbacks along the way.
Ha. lying on a white sand beach with not a care in the world counting my yachts. Nah. not really. I'd be bored in a week. In ten years time I would hope to still be challenging myself. still learning and still loving my job. So long as it is still creative and exciting, I‘ll be very happy.
Well there are many amazing actors out there. and of course
it would be fun to work with some big names. but in terms of aspiring to work with someone in the industry. it would have to be Peter Jackson. I admire how hard he has worked and I think his determination to realise a vision is second to none. He is proof that if you have a real passion and work incredibly hard you can make your dreams come true. Any chance of a lob Peter? I could send you my CV? And l do a great monkey impression!
