Throughout June the Scottish Mask and

Puppet centre in Glasgow will be hosting A Celebration of European Folk Puppets. Events include juggling marionettes from Scotland and clay figures that double as instruments from Russia, as well as workshops in marionette and mask making. Look out in particular for The Garbage Monster, a piece of Turkish shadow theatre about a friendly monster that feeds on garbage thrown into the sea, performed by one of Turkey’s leading puppet and shadow theatres. With traditional instruments and ingenious sound effects ensuring children will have no difficulty following the stories, most events are recommended for ages five and up.
