I Not long after club night Velvet closed its doors in the wee small hours of Sunday 4 February, a fire broke out at the venue, Mariners, in Leith, and destroyed the interior. The inferno was so intense the roof fell in. Alas, the next week’s gay club, Zeus - previewed here - had to be cancelled. Fear not, for the two clubs have risen from the ashes to schedule two Bank Holiday double-headers at Studio 24, on Sun 8 Apr and Sun 6 May. Velvet will be in the larger, downstairs room, and Zeus upstairs.
I Another venue that’s bitten the dust - though not so dramatically - is Sala cafe-bar on Broughton Street, Edinburgh. A women’s favourite, it’s closed after four years of serving tasty food and drink to a relaxed clientele.
I Doors have opened at 56 Oswald Street, however, where the popular east coast night spot Destination has established a base in Glasgow with Club Destination. The successful camp flamboyance is translated to a late-night dance club, open six days a week until 3am.
I Still in Glasgow, the new LGBT Centre plans to open up at 84 Bell Street in early April. Watch this space for details.

The stars are just as pretty looking up from the capital’s kerbs as from Glasgow’s, so Utter Gutter

As usual, we’re promised a ‘full-on homo smorgasboard of filthy beats and bleeps, tech beats and punk treats.’ Expect lots of dressing up and smiles to crack the dour demeanour of Auld Fleekie.
