I A new exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Union, features a newly commissioned video installation and a selection of works from the gallery’s permanent collection in a marriage of the historical and contemporary. Shotgun Wedding: Scots and the Union of 1707 features newly commissioned multi-screen video installations by artists Tracy Mackenna and Edwin Janssen as well as a selection of the gallery’s paintings, medals and engravings. The show examines the motives and the consequences of the Treaty which joined Scotland and England to create the United Kingdom. Until Sun 6 May (admission free).
I Glasgow City Council's Executive Committee approved the creation of a charitable company, Culture and Sport Glasgow, to deliver culture and sport services to the city. The new company will be formally established on Sunday 1 April and fully operational by Thursday 31 May. Councillor Steven Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: ‘This decision is good news for culture and sport in Glasgow. The new company will be able to attract investment in ways which the Council cannot. and so improve these services in communities across the city. We will achieve all of this while retaining ownership of the city's assets. The people of Glasgow will continue to own every brick in every building. every painting in every art gallery and every tile in every swimming pool.‘

The Scottish Arts Council has appointed I3Strand to undertake a feasibility study to review existing development and support structures for Live Art practices in Scotland.
