So it‘s the New Year. You've finally extinguished that winter apathy and decided to try a class. You're ready to say farewell to evenings tucked up in front of the telly with the central heating on. Only it seems that all your desired options have already been booked. That’s that plan scuppered - might as well turn up the central heating one more notch as it can get a bit chilly doing nothing of an evening.

But there is another option. For those of us who like to live on the spur of the moment there's are a range of pay on the day schemes to choose from, be it exercise classes at the local gym, talks within lunch hours or a one day introduction to a long term course. Many places have taster days before a new term starts such as the Continuing Studies Centre at the Edinburgh College of Art, where it is possible to learn what‘s involved in jewellery making or take a life drawing class. The pictures above feature bags made using basic screen-printing as part of course work for a textile-printing course at Edinburgh College of Art.
