Gossip, chat and rumour from the gallery floor

I Upholding a tradition of over 100 years, the National Galleries of Scotland opens its 2007 exhibition programme with an exhibition of watercolours by JMW Turner (1775-1851). For the first time, however, this annual highlight of the Galleries’ calendar will be shown in the RSA Lower Galleries, and will be celebrated with the publication of a new book by the exhibition curator Christopher Baker. The Gallery is open on Mon 1 Jan, noon—5pm; and from Tue 2 Jan mam-5pm as usual (admission free).

I Richard Calvocoressi, Director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art has been appointed Director of the Henry Moore Foundation. He will succeed Tim Llewellyn who is retiring at the end of May 2007. Calvocoressi has been running the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh since 1987. John Leighton. DirectorGeneral of the National Galleries of Scotland commented: ‘Under Richard Calvocoressi's leadership. the SNGMA has developed into one of Europe's finest galleries for modern and contemporary art. Richard has helped to raise the ambitions for modern art in Edinburgh and in Scotland. We will miss him greatly but we are extremely proud that he is going on to such a prestigious position at the head of the Henry Moore medation.‘ The Henry MOOre Foundation. based in Perry Green. Henfordshire. holds the werld's largest collection of work by Moore.
