not the case any more. .-\s rock has grown tip. so haye tlte artists and the people who listen to it. With l‘olks aged six to bl) all as likely to haye The Who alongside The View on their il’ods. it seems there‘s no such thing as a musical generation gap anytnore.
Nowhere is this more eyident than on the festival circttit. where the idea of catering for a mttch wider age range is spreading like wildlire. (her the last l’ew years a whole host oi smaller. boutique l'estiyals haye sprung tip in Scotland. Already we haye the Isle ol‘ Skye liestiyal. Belladrum in the Highlands. \Vickerman in l)uml‘ries and (ialloway and the lience llomegame in l’il‘e. all oI which promote themselyes on the fact that they deliyet' entertainment l‘or a much more tliyers‘e range oi punter than. say. T in the Park has ever tried to.
2007 sees the big gun promoters moying into the area. a sure sign that there‘s good money to be made from this widening demographic in the music market. l)l" Concerts. the l‘olks that do T in the Park. haye announced Connect. a three-day shebang at the start of September in the grounds ol' lnyerary ('astle. by l.och l’yne. The line-up isn‘t announced till March. btit the organisers are making big noises abotit it being a more mature and eclectic blend of acts and actiyities than at bigger l'estiyals.
