THE REAL McAVOY
With three films due for release in rapid succession, actor James McAvoy will be hard to avoid in 2007. Kaleem Aftab meets the Scots-born star who’s trying to avoid all those Ewan McGregor comparisons.
here is something odd about calling
.lames McAvoy ‘the t’acc’ ol‘ anything.
He‘s not exactly endowed with traditional movie star looks. llis skin tone is pallid. lie was born in (ilasgow on New Yeahs Day in NW and looks like he hasn't sampled a Scottish summer let alone an Indian one. His hair always seems unkempt atop his angular baby-lace. It‘s a physiognomy that‘s unique for a leading man in celluloid land. A compliment that will be t‘urther cemented this year with McAvoy appearing in three ot‘ the year‘s most anticipated pictures: The Last King (g/‘Sr'oI/uml. .Illonr'mr'nl and Becoming .lum'.
It‘s been a remarkable l2 months that has seen the Scot go from snagging a rising star BAli'l‘A to winning the British Independent liilm Awards Best Actor accolade for his tttrn as Doctor Nicolas (iarrigan in The Last Kng of Scotland. His performance. it’s being whispered. might see him receive the ultimate seal ol‘ movie approval — A Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.
