On the site of a former porn cinema and bingo hall, the 500 capacity venue opens on 13 October with My Latest Novel christening the stage. Ed Harcourt (22 October) will be forthcoming, while regular club nights (See Club News, page 31 for more details) and regular comedy ensures this will be a welcome addition to the scene.

We always knew indie bods St Jude’s Infirmary were cultured types, but this month they have excelled themselves. First they approached crime writer Ian Rankin to work together after he raved about the band on his blog. The song, ‘Foot of the Walk’ will be on the band's new album. Secondly, they have teamed up with painter and fellow Fifer Jack Vetrianno. The band are filming a video in conjunction with the BBC for their single ‘Goodbye Jack Vetrianno'. The painter will have a cameo in the film.
