Music news that knows its hard being a woman
I Corrine Bailey Flee is now so incredibly bloody popular in the US of A that she’s been forced to reschedule her forthcoming European and UK dates. Which, means, in short, Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall date has been moved to 19 March 2007. I First they use Anton Corbin for their photo shoots then they start selling out their tours in minutes. Are The Killers the new U2? Or the new Depeche Mode for that matter? Until Brandon Flowers starts berating world leaders or ingesting so many drugs he dies and then comes back to life. we'll say no. But selling out an entire UK tour in five minutes is a pretty good start including their Carling Academy show on 22 November. I On a different but no less tantalising note is the return of the Big Big World Festival in Glasgow from 21-28 October. The event plays host to artists from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe with Buena Vista Social Club associates topping the bill at the Old Fruitmarket on 21 October, whilst reggae harmonisers The Twinkle Brothers perform On 26 October. Kurt Wagner fans will be intrigued to watch Lambchop perform with the Dafo String Quartet on 28 October at ABC in a night of cinematic majesty. Also attached to the bill but performing other dates throughout Scotland is acclaimed pianist Omar Sosa who collaborates with oud and Sufi vocalist Dhafer Youssef at the Royal Concert Hall on 22 October.
