Cover story: hitti Frutti
Robbie Coltrane, all dressed up as Danny, the moody, quiffed rocker, is one of our favourite images of recent Scottish cultural history. In Tutti Frutti, Coltrane and his co-star Emma Thompson genuinely touched a nerve, and took their careers to a new level in the process. Even though the iconic television series has never been repeated since its original broadcast in 1987, it is fondly remembered. Now, Tutti Fruttl' is coming back as a stage play. John Byrne’s play is definitely not about nostalgia, but it emphatically deals with the fragile nature of memory: can it satisfy all those who think they remember how good the original was? We talk to Byrne, and to each member of the cast in our extended feature on page 18.
