sentence conjures images of BBC carnerarnen singling out the token t'emale supporters amongst a stand full of Samba drum-beating South Ainericians at the World Cup. Or at least it will do until people hear of the shoegaxer-pop- disco band from Brasilia.
‘ll' we were from the US or Japan.‘ drawls l..ovet'oxxx. the aptly-named lead singer ol‘ the live girl. one boy combo. ‘I have no idea if we would be the same band. We’re a whole bunch ol‘ things that have caught people's imagination; there are live girls in the band. we‘re from Brazil and our shows are pretty great.” Apparently. they are an oestrogen-fuelled orgy of excitement and Latin madness. where they get to show off the ‘unique' sensibilities which inspired songs like 'Meeting Paris Hilton' and ‘Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above' — that last one written because the band fancied meeting Death From Above 197‘) and wanted to get their attention.
The band's name — C ansei de Ser Sexy — translates as Tired of Being Sexy. and its origins also come from the same world of unashamedly cheesy pop. ‘lt‘s got nothing to do with nothing] asserts Lovel‘oxxx. ‘We could be called We Like Tea and it would have as much meaning. 1 was just looking through my emails one day and I saw a headline from Beyonce saying she was “tired of being sexy". I thought. “oh my god. how can she say such a thing‘.’"‘
