H (,‘l N) HARDFLOOR Freq at the Sub Club, Glasgow, Fri 18 Aug
In 1992 Hardfloor changed dance music forever. The German duo of Ramon Zenker and Oliver Bondzio released the epic Hardtrance Acperience EP on Sven vath’s legendary Harthouse label. lts rolling beats, relentless build up and sharp acid squeals set a new bench mark for techno and pretty much invented acid as we know it today. It was Zenker and Bondzio’s manipulation of the Roland T8303 that sealed the machine's place in dance music history. If you listen to it today it‘s still fresh, exhilarating and powerful; it’s almost what the phrase ‘dancefloor filler’ was invented for. It even went top ten in the UK.
‘All these trance records and all these records now — it’s now standard to have a big break and then the snare roll — and without ‘Acperience’ that might never have happened, it’s crazy,‘ says Zenker in his soft German accent. ‘We always play it live towards the end of our shows, and everywhere we go in the world, when the first

beat of the record starts, people scream.’ It really was a high point in the annals of repetitive beats that struck a cord with the public. ‘Not every techno musician can say they had a big worldwide hit. A lot of people come up to us with different stories and say they know what time, which club, what drugs they were on and which DJ played this track the first time they heard it. This makes us really proud that someone has really liked your song, and that it’s had an impact on them in their life.‘
But there’s far more to Hardfloor than just ‘Acperience’. They have released some classic albums through the years such as T8 Resuscitation, Respect and Homerun and are still producing intense, distorted techno today on their own hardfloor.de label. Not forgetting their break beat and trip hop side project dadamnphreaknoizephunk or their classic remixes of New Order, Depeche Mode. Robert Armani and Mory Kanté’s ‘Yeke Yeke‘. And Hardfloor will happily educate you in their back-story down Freq. ‘Old stuff, new stuff, it’ll be an acid journey of 15 years through Hardfloor’s music,’ explains Zenker. (Henry Northmore)
