subversive connotation. Similarly, the term prog has been reconvened by astute men like The Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria and of course Tbol. Tool are ‘prog’ because they do peculiar time signatures, 11 minute songs and don’t look like the Strokes. Boo hoo. 10,000 Days, their fourth album in 16 years is a monolithic slab of spectral rock, filled with bruising clusters of riffs and drums and spacey swamp. They are more a latter day Cure or Pink Floyd, quietly becoming huge doing something on
their own terms.
