COLOURSFEST Kid Carpet Coloursfest, in association with Radio One, returns for its fifth year with the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Timo Mass and David Guetta on the bill. The List caught up with a few star names as they prepare for Scotland's premier dance festival.

different as you can get.’

Now coming up to its fourth outing, the cheekily-titled Wee Chill has grown from an intimate event for 250 people to one which utilises the Queen's Park Glasshouse’s full 1000-strong capacity. The names associated have also grown outside the sphere of local influences to this time incorporate well-heralded urban funk production duo the Nextmen, the brilliant cut-up tinkerman Kid Carpet, and such local DJ talents as Andrew Back, Haptic (including Palazzo), and the guys from the Buff Club with their own Buff International Records Room.

‘lt’s more a good day out than an excuse to put on just a series of house DJs, or whatever,’ says Palazzo. ‘We also try to get our DJs doing something different when they play at the Wee Chill. For example, this year we have Chris Duckenfield and Domenic Capello doing disco sets, even though they’re more renowned for their techno sound. It's all about having a laugh and letting people do something new. Like Kid Carpet - you can’t get much more fun than him. People say, “Who’s this guy?” when he walks on stage, and when he walks off they say, “Who the fuck was that? He was amazing!“

With another event planned for late summer/autumn, Palazzo comments that he would eventually like to see the spirit of the Wee Chill develop into some sort of Southside festival, making use of venues like the Tramway. Until then, however, the event offers the sort of eclectic communality you don‘t often find outside of the West End. (David Pollock)
