Name SOphia Myles Born 18 March 1980
Background Born in London the daughter of a Vicar. Myles excelled at her school studies but opted out of an academic career (philosophy. Cambridge) to pursue acting after being discovered at 16 by actor-writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park). Myles' early screen performances consisted largely of minor roles in period pieces (Mansfield Park. From Hell). until she made a splash playing Lady Penelope in the otherwise disappointing Thunderbirds mowe. following which film her career has taken off.
What’s she up to now? Myles has been hard at it, and there's a backlog of forthcoming films and televi3ion dramas to prove it: Art School Confidential. from the makers of Ghostwor/d; an episode of the new Dr Who series; Hal/am Foe. Scottish director David Mackenzie's next film. Currently shooting in Edinburgh and Glasgow; and Tristran + Isolde, the Dark Ages romance that ’s a cross between Romeo + Juliet and Brave/read, a US-produced blockbuster which marks Myles' first leading role. This looks to be Myles’ moment. What she says about her confidence 'l'm quite shy naturally. This is quite good for me as a profession. because it's forced me to face my biggest fears and kind of come out of my shadow. This film I‘m doing now. Hal/am Foe. there are some scenes that for me personally are going to be quite terrifying. For example. I have a scene where l have to dance - which is something I hate - but I also have to dance in front of Billy Elliot [co- star Jamie Bell]. Things like that scare you. but it's good for me.‘ Interesting fact Myles is a whiz with accents: her Irish in Tristan and Isolde is spot on. and she says she has currently moved onto passable Scots.
