The Lonely Piper and Alberta Whittle show a collection of new work entitled ‘Coconut and Vanilla Sundays’ as part of GENERATORprojects at the Mid Wynd Industrial Estate, Dundee. The artists will show work that maps a journey from the Scottish Highlands to Barbados, stopping off at significant cultural, spiritual and magical sites along the way. Whittle’s work examines the role of the non-Western ‘other’, questioning stereotypes and the relationship between hysteria and religious experiences. The mythic Lonely Piper’s work, described as a ‘wondering, dondering soul’, also examines issues of identity, travel, and the Scottish ‘other’ within. For more information visit generatorprojects.co.uk.
Glasgow's Art Fair (Thu 6—Sun 9 Apr) is second only in size to London's Frieze in Britain. Although it's slightly less respected by the contemporary art glitterati. you could still see and buy work by Frank Auerbach. Louise Bourgeois. Steven Campbell, Paula Rego and Bridget Riley. The fair also includes excellent work by young artists represented by Glasgow's Market Gallery. Lapland and the Changing Room. Stirling. It is estimated that the work sold will reach a figure of E 1 million, attracting roughly 16.000 visitors to the city.
For two days at the end of the Ellsworth Kelly show at the lngleby Gallery, Edinburgh (Thu 20 Apr and Fri 21 Apr), the exhibition space will be transformed into a cinema showing films chosen by nine artists who have exhibited in the gallery in recent years.
