GILLIAN PURVIS TRUST ANNOUNCES RESEARCH AWARD
l Creative Scotland award-winning artist Toby Paterson and trustees of the Gillian Purvis Trust have announced the inauguration of the Gillian Purvis Award for Primary Research. The award of £500 will be presented in May to a third year textiles student at Glasgow School of Art (GSA), for assistance with travel for research towards fourth year work. The trust, which already awards fourth year students at the GSA, was set up by Paterson to honour the memory of his late girlfriend, Gillian, who had a keen interest in textiles. The trust aims to add further awards to its portfolio in the near future. This year's GSA degree show will also feature work (pictured, left) by the 2006 winner of the £750 main award, Catherine Aitken. (AR)

[t A survey by XTN Data has revealed that illegal music downloading continues to grow in the UK, despite last year's court action, which led to two file sharers paying thousands in damages to the music industry. The survey found that legal action is the least likely means of preventing file sharing with only 12% saying that legal action would discourage them.
