Music news, fuelled by booze
3.: Those perennial promoters of Scottish music at Tennent’s Lager have again teamed up with Dazed and Confused magazine to produce the second issue of their occasional music publication, T Mag. It’s available from independent music retailers and Oxfam stores throughout the country, and this issue is a rhythm special, with a host of drummers interviewed about their craft, from Dave Grohl to Charlie Watts and all points in between. Donations from sales will be made to Oxfam.
Now here's a good one. The Fall have been an influence on every two-bit indie band around but an influence on authors? Apparently so. as a raft of scribes have contributed to a new book called Perverted by Language, each author writing a short story where the title was a Fall track. Those contributing so far include Michel Faber, Niall Griffiths, Nicholas Blincoe. Stewart Lee. Helen Walsh and Rebbecca Ray. The book is slated for publication early next year
Underworld have released their first new material for two years in the form of the first in a series of download-only packages available from their website for a fiver each. The opener is a seven-track collection called ‘A Lovely Broken Thing’ and the band apparently plan on doing quite a bit of releasing via download so that they can put stuff out as and when they want. See www.underworldlive.com for details.
A Glasgow-based company has launched a digital music distribution website which will hopefully mean that local acts can get their music onto the internet more easily. EmuBands claims to be able to reach a huge potential online audience thanks to its links with major online services such as Napster. iTunes. eMusic and Karma Download. Check out www.emubands.com for all the chat.
