REASONS TO(K)SEE
They’re angels from an alien planet OK. they‘re not actually divine winged beings. nor are they little green men. but the Icelandic post-rockers sound utterly unearthly on record. at least. Majestic strings. weird atmospherics. dreamy piano and otherworldly vocals all combine to make you think you've been beamed up to the mothership.
They are monumental The band can make music that is gossamer thin. and music that is headcrushingly massive, often in the same tune. Take ‘Glosoli' from the new album Takk. . . as an example. It's like being crushed by an iceberg. one snowflake at a time.
They’ve invented their own language A great way of avoiding accusations of crap lyrics. the band originally sang in their own made-up language. called Hopelandish. Dafties.
Tom Cruise is a fan OK. the midget film star weirdo is probably not the last bastion of cool music taste. but he was well impressed by the band's tunes when they appeared on the Vanilla Sky soundtrack. Quite right. too.
They’re Icelandic and therefore great Let '5 face it. everything about Iceland is fantastic. They gave us ijrk, they eat rotten shark. they still believe in pixies and sprites, they have midnight sunshine. volcanoes and geysers. and the whole place looks like the moon. (Doug Johnstone)
