From the first page of their programme, the Inspiration organisers have laid out their vision: ‘The festival provides a feast of possibilities and encourages discovering and learning through the arts. I hope it inspires every child to enjoy exploring the world in a different way.’ For co-ordinator Maggie Singleton, to achieve this it’s important to raise the profile of the arts in education, fostering links between artists and teachers. And Singleton must be doing something right, as the festival is now in its eighth year and continues to expand. ‘It’s a very eclectic programme and links with other city themes and events,’ she says. ‘lt’s become a recognised part of the school calendar and is well

Ayawara will be taking their west African rhythms into local schools, Jaipur Kawa Brass Band complement their Big Big World appearance with a workshop and performance, and a musical adventure by Theatre Sans Frontiers promises to take us Round the World in 80 Minutes. Continuing the international theme, Sonsie Music’s Dances of Okonanta is an Indonesian story told through music, dance and the spoken word. Inspiration also joins worldwide celebrations of the bicentennial of Hans Christian Andersen, with a production of The Snow Queen. And possibly to top it all, 035 Papier Theater will be over from Germany for a full week, helping celebrate 20 years of Glasgow being twinned with Nuremberg, with their unique paper theatre shows.
