It's hard to believe it is 20 years since guitarist Pat Metheny teamed up With saxophonist Ornette Coleman for the original verSion of this album, much to the consternation of many of his fans. Song X departed radically from the fusion groove of Metheny's regular group. and retains a fiery. sharp edged impact two decades on. The original eight songs have been expanded to 14 With the addition of six more tracks (which now open the disc rather than being tacked on the end). and the sound has been comprehensively remastered to prowde what Metheny describes as “a more complete picture of our effons'. session. and his melodic lines on tenor are complemented by Spencer's crisp accompaniments on electric keyboard. Don't look for either player to be pushing any envelopes here ~ the emphasis is very much on accessibility. With catchy melodies. clearly defined harmonies and bree7y. upbeat musical moods.
