REASONS TO GO SEE
u' re . w
HAYSEED DIXIE
1 If they didn’t exist, God would have to invent them just to make the world a better place. The premise is simple — take rock and heavy metal classics and play them in a bluegrass style. at a frankly unbelievany breakneck pace.
2 They really know their shit This is no gimmicky outfit. The band hail from Deer Lick Holler (yes, really) deep in the Appalachian mountains. and play bluegrass musrc they way they drink — fast and furious. They also know their rock‘n'roll. and have released whole albums of AC/DC and Kiss songs. plus they've been known to dabble in Queen, Aerosmith. Motdrhead and Van Halen.
3 They make the mandolin cool which. let's face it. is a miracle. Fiddle. yes. banjo. OK. but mandolin? Yet somehow. in the hands of these dungaree-wearing Ioons. it's all just too cool for school.
4 They even do a Franz Ferdinand tune Not content with raiding the classic rock canon for their kicks. the band do a frankly ridiculous version of 'This Fire' on latest album. A Hot Piece of Grass.
5 They’re the fun side of redneckism Put all thoughts of Deliverance-style antics out your mind. cos the only porcme squeals round these parts are ones of drunken delight as you headbang along to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath classics like you‘ve never heard 'em before.
