It has been said that adverts are a barometer of trends. Well, it would seem that despite the ‘dance music is dead' slogans. dance music has never gone away. Check out the amazing ‘Jacques Your Body' by Les Rhythmes Digitales that appears on the breakdancing, ‘transforming‘ Citroen advert. This was a track that I played on its first release in 1996. and even put on Les Rhythmes Digitales at the Arches around then. He is a very talented artist who. while looking over his shoulder to the 80s. was way ahead of his time with the electro pop sound. and now with the help of Citroen has broken through and received the top five chart placing he so rightly deserves. Also. have you caught the BMW 3 Series advert? It features one of my favourite tracks of the year. ‘Tokyo Gliterrati' from Soma signing Vector Lovers. You also cannot escape to have noticed the terrific Golf advert with a body poppin’ Gene Kelly dancing to a reworked “Singing in the Rain' from Mint Royale. This is due to drop soon and is sure to make a . . . splash (ahem).
While we're on the subject of adverts. have you seen the Loreal gel advert with French DJ David Guetta’? Oh dear, maybe he thinks he is “worth it'. but the advert is fairly cringworthy. He ain't no Beyoncé or Kate Moss. Reports that Laurent Garnier is changing his name to Laboratoire Garnier are completely unfounded and quite frankly made up.
