I The rumour that has rumbled on for years looks like it might be coming true, unfortunately. A recent licence hearing has given Studio 24 - perhaps most famous as the home of goth/rock night the Mission and its baby brother the under 183 Jr Mission plus a selection of techno nights such as Dogma - six months to sell up. Through the years there have been hardly any complaints from residents in the area, but in recent months things have changed.

As Studio 24 management explain: ‘The more recent objections on the basis of anti- social behaviour relating to Studio 24 were only brought to the attention of the Licencing Board and the owners from June 2005. Studio 24 did not have sufficient time to react to the alleged complaints prior to the hearing on 27th June 2005.’

On arriving at the hearing, the club discovered that what it thought would be a matter regarding eight complaints turned into one about approximately 20 complaints of ‘alleged anti-social behaviour of Studio 24’s patrons’. Legal representatives advised licensee David McArthur that closure was imminent so they have agreed to close the shut up shop in January 2006. Regarding to the anti-social behaviour of the younger patrons, Edinburgh youth leaders and the police have praised the club in the past. 6VT Project worker Fiona Horne said: ‘When they are in one place like Studio 24, they are much easier to manage and they are safer too.’ For more information and to sign an online petition, go to www.3avestudio24.com before other clubs in the city come under threat from local residents.
