BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra — Bernstein! A performance sure to get the pulse racing as the BBC SSO. chief conductor llan Volkov and violinist Anne Akiko Meyers (pictured) celebrate the legacy of Leonard Bernstein. Of course there are the dances from West Side Story, but less well known is the hypnotic Serenade for violin and orchestra. It’s based on Plato‘s Symposium and the discussion of the nature of love that takes place among Socrates. Aristophanes et al over the author’s reconstruction of a banquet.
