I really enjoyed Rodge Glass' piece about Star Wars. I don't mind too much whether the new film is as bad as the other two prequels — it's joy enough having an excuse to talk about what was an unbelievably important period in my childhood. and those of most of the people my age. I'd also like to take this opponunity to air a dirty little secret. I first realised that I'd become a woman when l shifted from being moved by the boyish charms of Luke Skywalker to having altogether darker stirrings for Han Solo. There. I've said it.

Re: Theatre pages (521) Why can I not see any reference to The Graduate at Dundee Rep. a highly regarded play, in your current Theatre listings? I would have thought this was quite a big event in Scottish theatre, or am I looking in the wrong place? I have to declare a selfish interest: my daughter Irene is playing Mrs Robinson and we are resident here in Australia and just desperate to read any information. write- ups. crits etc on this side of the world

Although our listings are online, our features and other editorial coverage is only to be found in the magazine. In fact, The Graduate was our lead story in last issue '3 Theatre pages, and gets a favourable review in this issue. And your daughter was singled out for her fine performance.

SAVE THE CARDROSS SEMINARY
There has been a lot of activity around St Peter's Seminary. Cardross recently. St Peter's is one of the most important 20th century buildings in Scotland. Designed by architects lsi Metzstein and Andy McMillan at Gillespie. Kidd and Cole and completed in 1966. it has been unoccupied and falling into ruin since 1980. Unfortunately. despite the recent flurry of interest. we do not seem to be getting any nearer to a positive resolution for the college. Speaking frankly. the future of the seminary hangs in the balance. We are, in our minds. about to lose St Peter's altogether. The buildings continue to deteriorate and were vandalised significantly over the winter. while unsympathetic proposals to strip the college to an exposed shell are about to go before Argyll and Bute Council's planning committee.
We set up St Peter's Building Preservation Trust two years ago in order to champion the reuse of the buildings. It now seems that urgent action is necessary to save them. We remain keen to develop the

work of the trust. to market the seminary. to identify a potential reuse. and to launch a campaign to raise funds. In order to do this we need to expand the expertise base and increase the scale and scope of the trust 's activities.

I noticed that your list of summer festivals does not include the Hebridean Celtic Festival. Despite taking place on the Isle of Lewis, with a population of around 20.000. the festival had 14,000 attendees last year. It's one of the biggest traditional music events in Scotland. We had to make the difficult choice of selecting about 40 festivals out of the hundreds in Scotland this year. Sorry.
Why are so many acts playing the Carling Academy instead of the Barrowland? The Academy is far too bitty and too narrow to be a decent rock venue. Different parts of the crowd feel removed from each other because of the various balconies and when you stand at the back you feel totally removed from the rest of the crowd. The Barrowland is open and democratic and gets far more of an atmOSphere — plus it isn't full of advertising. I know that when they‘re onstage. bands are prone to claiming that this city or that venue is the best place in the world. but I really think bands love the Barras and the punters certainly do. I wonder if the reason why bands do play the Academy over the Barrowland is more because they end up getting booked into all the other Carling venues around the country. Which means good local venues end up getting stuffed. I'm not saying we should boycott the Carling venues — the one in Brixton is great — but can‘t we encourage groups to play proper individual venues rather than soulless chain stores? Speaking of which. when are we going to get a decent mid-

It is art with a very political message, but art can often be politics as well. I think she's done it well, and it's a really good way to hit such a controversial issue.
