For too long now, breakbeat nights have been pretty mt?“ the tsuzii round «:5 r‘er‘ser‘se: m't. hard to find in Scotland, but Bio-Rhythm have led the way in tempting the (litll‘trf3 grid sow; "ze'uert 'tf>-.-’:‘. scene’s finest to our chillier climes. Tonight is no exception. Expect cut-up mayhem and hip hop-fuelled breaks galore as Krafty Kuts makes his first foray to Edinburgh since winning the International Breakspoll best DJ award a few weeks back.
Martin Reeves has been steadily making his way to the top of breaks tree since he released his first track as Krafty Kuts, ‘Gimme the Funk’, back in 1999. Way back then, Reeves was just dabbling in production, but even then he was doing something right - Norman Cook loved the track and signed it to his label Southern Fried, kickstarting the career of one of the best breaks DJs around.
Since then, Martin’s career has gone from strength to strength. His label Against the Grain puts out a steady stream of powerhouse releases, such as last year’s album from the Freestylers, Raw As Fuck, his Brighton-based night SuperCharged regularly pulls in some of the finest breaks DJs in the world, and his collection of awards just keeps getting bigger and bigger. On top of the Breakspoll award, Martin was also voted best International DJ in Australia, beating off competition from the likes of Sasha.
It’s easy to see why. His funk-fuelled sets are the perfect party soundtrack, designed to rip floors apart with their eclectic mish mash of sounds. His Bio-Rhythm set won't be any different. (Darren Watts)
