Club nights, like friends, seem to be celebrating birthdays every weekend of the year, placing an ever heavy burden on the committed clubber. Always ones to offer a greater incentive, Trouble will not only be celebrating three glorious years of bringing the finest in dancefloor madness to Edinburgh this fortnight, but it will be their last date for two months and their final shindig showdown at Chambers Street‘s Cellar Bar.
It is also a birthday of sorts for the party’s Kyoto Jazz Massive guests, this being one stop on their Especial Records’ 10th Anniversary Tour. Brothers Shuya and Yoshiro Okino are wax Obsessives turned DJs, turned producers specialising in ultra-cool Latin jazz fare. After Yoshi turned out a real carnival bomb back in 2002, it is now the turn of brother Shuya to kindle our souls with similarly fiery dancefloor jazz.
‘We did Trouble at the Blue Note for a year before the fire, and as far as I’m concerned we were doing spin-off clubs like Missing and Say Samba! with the same spirit and ethos as Trouble,’ explains DJ and promoter Hobbes of the birthday. Throughout these clubs’ histories the boys have put on a boggling role-call of the biggest upfront names causing a stir on today’s more eclectic underground club scene. Now the Troublemakers have their sights set on a new horizon, resurfacing on 20 May at Cabaret Voltaire.
‘I feel that we’re in a really strong position to move and do something
else, and take it to the next level really,’ says Hobbes of the positive air around their baby turned toddler. And so he should, with whispers of something stirring at Po Na Na next month and a spanking new website purring into action (www.getintotrouble.com), this is one Edinburgh outfit that is once again making like the proverbial phoenix.
