OK, so breakdancing looks difficult. Really difficult. But then sometimes the hardest activities are those that most deserve you getting your teeth stuck into. If you seek inspiration in this field, then take a trip to the Man of the Year Battle 2004, the grand finale of 200 battles that have taken place over the last 12 months.
Some of the UK’s top male and female dancers are taking part, as well as locals from Edinburgh and Glasgow. There are still a few competition spots up for grabs, so even if you just turn up on the day there’s a chance you could walk away with the title. There’s an under 165 battle and an open 8 Boy and 8 Girl floor. Judging the activities will be the specially flown in Sancho, Koone and Speedy 2. Music comes from DJs Red 6, Just 1 and local hip hop chaps Penpushers. There'll be a live showcase battle between Bad News Km from the UK and Rumble Crew from Germany.
This exciting dance form is growing ever more popular and, according to event organiser Jim Findlay, it‘s all about getting more people interested. ‘When I first started the event, it was to introduce new people to the dance,’ he says. ‘That’s still the case, they can turn up and see what they think. We’ve had quite a few people coming down and we’re happy to spend time with them in a corner showing them the basics. We want to promote a good atmosphere so that people will be chilled out and they‘ll be able to get involved if they want to.‘
