To be frank. some boat parties can really suck. Cramped conditions. bad weather. rubbish sound systems and a dearth of reasonable

n can mean maritime misery. Billy Woods. however, is

not knoviri‘ixfor being the kind of party organiser who skimps on i.ortant details like these. He's making sure that the Outer Drive journey to Dumbarton Rock and back will be provisioned properly. and that means a fine vessel and fitting soundtrack for the 200- plus punters. ‘We‘ve invested a lot of time. money and effort into Outer Drive, and the boat party is the same. We know exactly how it’s going to be set up, starting with the sound system.‘ " Outer Drive is the kind of club that makes the Glasgow 'V scene so special. It‘s got its own steady following. it's founded on musical diversity and it understands that " even an underground club has to offer the public a coherent, professional sense of what it is. Hence. Woods and promoter friend Ash have always put together a strong PR campaign. from ultra-funky flyers to beautifully produced posters. 'Since I started doing nights. I‘ve always wanted our work to be very professional; we know that everything is important in a club. We're trying to put on a party outwith the mainstream. a night built around the musicanot always with big guests. The boat party is an extension of that.’ Outer Drive might not be the only boat party on Glasgow‘s nightlife calendar this year, but it's probably the most anticipated. (Johnny Regan)
