SALTLICK
The Riverside Club, Glasgow, Sat 3 Jul
Saltlick has been one of Glasgow’s coolest clubs for just under a year now, attended by those with one eye on the catwalk and another on the city’s thriving underground music scene. It’s not hard to sell out their spiritual home, the Riverside Club, owing to its modest dimensions, but resident and club founder Linus Loves says the club isn’t relocating. ‘We are queued out every month. People ask us why we don’t move to another venue, but I don’t think clubs that move ever really work.’
He should know about clubs working. This is a celebration at the cutting edge, backed up by a label (Breastfed) which is pumping out critically acclaimed bits of plastic at an alarming rate. Saltlick’s PR is another success story - aggressive but inviting, cool but funny, iconic and simple. Your eyes have no doubt been drawn to the pink posters emblazoned with the slogans ‘Boom Boom Long Time' and ‘Destroy Rock’n’RolI’ on a journey through any part of the city or West End.
