TECHNO THE HACKER
Access at the Honeycomb, Edinburgh, Fri 4 Jun
In terms of great musical double-acts of our time, they mi '. the tongue quite so readily as Lennon and McCartney, M rissey and Man\ or Gallagher and Gallagher, but there’s no doubting that la: Hacker are still reasonably inseparable in the minds oft
ht not roll off
'ss Kittin and th ir fans.
Yet separate theyi‘have. It’s been a whole four years since ‘Frank Sinatra’
and First Album caused the pair to be
crowned the Queen and Prince of
electroclash, respec 'vely (Felix is the
King; don’t you forget it). With both releasing solo albums this year their
separate agendas are thrown sharply
into focus, but it’s hard to imagine
Michel Amato (aka the Hacker) has gone
back to the hardcore ways first
demonstrated over a decade
ago in his hometown of
Grenoble as one half of XMF.
He might be missing the
Kittin’s soulful influence, but
the 805 loom large in
Amato’s record collection and
you can guarantee the decade
will permeate the more straight-
up techno on offer during his set. It’s a coup for Access to have
secured his services for one of only two dates in the UK, and the club’s Pyz sums it up perfectly. ‘l’ve never been this excited about a gig we’ve put on before, and I’m just counting down the minutes!’ Amen to that.
