OUR EUROPE

In true Scots style of warm friendship and welcoming hospitality, Our Europe is a special gala concert to celebrate the expansion of the European Union and to mark the accession of the ten new member nations. Music, poetry, song and film from Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia will be featured. ‘lt’ll be a high speed cultural nip round these countries,’ says administrator Laura Mackenzie Stuart. ‘And the whole idea is for it to be an enjoyable way of Scotland - which has a long history of social, economic and cultural links with many of these countries - giving them a

Academy Now! The music of Harrison Birtwistle and Henry Brant is explored in innovative style as RSAMD students sit side—by-side with the top professional players of Hebrides Ensemble for performances of Secret Theatre and Ice Field. The three day mini-fest also features the first performance of the winning piece in this year’s Dinah Wolfe Memorial competition. as well as music by Charles Ives. RSAMD, Glasgow, Wed 5—Fri 7 May.

PrimaDiva Coinciding with the launch of their first album with the RSNO, these three classically trained singers perform some of the juiciest bits of opera, accompanied on the piano by music director David Munro.
