Art in the frame INSIDE OUT
As Glasgow becomes emerged in all things related to visual art this weekend. from the Glasgow Art Fair to RAW: Real Art Week. Inside Out is offering an alternative. Up-and- coming student talent from Glasgow School of Art. RSAMD. Goldsmiths in London and the Wimbledon School of Art will come together for a night of multimedia art and performance. Organised by Can‘t Wa:t Won't Wait. a group of first year painters at Glasgow School of Art comprising Richard Hopkins. Sebastian Willan and Fiona Greig. three floors of GSA‘s Assembly Hall will be given over to live performances. video work. installations. SOUnd pieces. sculpture. painting and photography by over 20 artists.
‘There's this unspoken rule within Glasgow that if you are a first or second year student you don't have a right to any public platform of any kind until you have gone thr0ugh the process so to speak.‘ says founding member of the group. Richard Hopkins. ‘We do have something to say and although it might not be comparable to the Jim Lambie's of this world. we wanted to organise something in the same spirit.‘
Over the past three months. Can't Wait Won't Wait have been putting together the programme which includes performances from Lisa Wesley who took park in this year's National Review of Live Art and an internationally renowned performance artist who wishes to remain anonymous. Other works include Cheryl Field's text-based soaps which explore the stereotypes in the school ; Catriona Ryan has collabOrated with Eddie Manson to produce sound pieces and Lisa Brodie has devised a piece on communication based on chocolate massages.
So what's next for the group? Plans are already under way to construct a temporary bar/cafelexhibition space made entirely out of pink plasticine. So if there are any artists/designers out there who would like to help design fixtures and fittings. get in touch.
