ELECTRO TRANSMISSION
Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow, Sat 20 Mar
Here’s TLR
In what promises to be a very special night, the reclusive Dutch outfit, Global Darkness, are showcasing their sounds at Glasgow’s Transmission. Not that Jeroen Van Der Star (label boss and DJ TLR), one of our hosts for the night alongside disco-punk Legowelt, is feeling too reclusive at the moment. ‘We’ve been doing our Bunker label tour for around four years in places like Japan and the USA,’ he says. ‘lt’s tiring, but to be honest I get restless if I’m home for more than two weeks. Still, this is the first time we’ve been to Scotland. I hear people are into very loud techno there. Is
that right?’
Only if you ask some particularly vindictive chav the way to the club and he points you towards bassbin hell. So what will you be educating us with, I ask the man who started out playing punk and surf bands, before progressing to spinning jungle in mates’ squats? ‘I play electro and house,’ he replies. ‘But there’s also a lot of disco in there, as well as some of our label’s own releases. It’s a lot more up, not as dark as a usual electro set, but then I like to play a lot of different things back-to-back and see how the
reaction varies.’ (David Pollock)
