LAURA MACDONALD INTERNATIONAL QUINTET Saxophonist Laura MacDonald is joined by two Americans, Donny McAslin (tenor sax) and Antonio Sanchez (drums), and two Scots, Steve Hamilton (piano) and Aiden O’Donnell (bass), in this International Quintet. They celebrate the imminent release of her second album. Awakenings, although the disc will feature the sextet which premiered the original commission (a New Work
award from the Scottish Arts Council) last year. Several of
the compositions had Scottishsinflected melodies, ‘ ~' and the sophisticated " interplay of her ensemble
writing was consistently impressive.
