New Lanark World Heritage Site An hour's drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh is this restored 18th century cotton mill which was managed by Robert Owen from 1800—1825. The mill village. which includes Owen's house. as well as the mill workers’ homes and a warehouse. is still inhabited and is being continually restored and preserved. Museum of Scottish Country Life (pictured) Situated on the outskirts of Glasgow. this is a relatively new addition to the city's already impressive collection of museums. Focusing on country life in Scotland. it highlights the way in which country people lived and worked from the 18th century until the present time and how it has shaped the countryside of today. Stirling Castle Stirling Castle. situated high on a volcanic rock formation, is one of Scotland's grandest castles. Run by Historic Scotland. it charts the history of the building from its beginnings in the late 15th century and the efforts made by Kings James IV. V and VI, and Queen Mary of Guise. to expand it. Made up of the newly restored Great Hall. Chapel Royal. Palace and outer defences, it also houses the Regimental Museum in the King's Old Building which is also home to the Argyll 8 Sutherland Highlanders.
