Their origins might be shamelessly derivative: pillaging the said same Stiff Little Fingers/Ramones dustbin that Green Day had pretty much exhausted some years earlier. In 2003 they did a rare thing in the world of punk pop - they progressed. Their new, eponymously titled, last album saw the trio sprawl, allowing masterful sticksman Travis Barker space to flex and swing under their twin vocal approach - hey, they even had the Cure’s Robert Smith on board to further his bewildering renaissance. The fart jokes of old may have lessened but thankfully th good tunes have not. (Mark Robertson)
