Despite the presence of the Big Yin 'fucking' and ‘shiting' all over the place. this slightly sickly feelgood comedy has a homely, home made feel. Billy Connolly plays a lawyer turned fisherman who goes back into the cOurtroom to Sue God after an insurance company refuses to pay up when his boat is struck by lightning. A sprightly opening bodes well. especially thanks to the big man's gregarious and assured performance. but the plot guickly runs out of ideas after a decent initial premise. and a frustratingly unfoCussed end leaves you With an empty feeling.

The Directors Label, mmm let’s face it, it sounds like a shit idea - cobbling together a couple of old music videos and shorts by directors who have either gone on to better things or are about to do so. Yet, if these first three urban donkeys to leave the stalls are anything to go by it may just be an ongoing series worth keeping an eye on and investing in.
The Work of Director Spike Jonze (O... ) provides a fascinating counterpoint to his deranged feature film work. His early music videos still impress with their sense of gleeful abandon, whether it’s the Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’ or the Pharcyde’s ‘Drop’. There are also some killer shorts here,
notably Torrance Rises. The Work of Director Michel Gondry (COO
), is flawed by its own
construction. As cute as Gondry’s menu and link pages are, this is incredibly hard to navigate through. Gondry may actually be guilty of throwing some Dadaist ghosts into the machine himself here - who knows. The work itself is easily the most compelling and disturbing of the three: it inhabits an area between whimsy and the Jan Svankmajer’s animated grotesquerie. It is all a bit Bjork-heavy, but then again she was the only
artist who really let the crazy French man cut loose.
The Work of Director Chris Cunningham (0000 ), is worth owning for Aphex Twin’s horrifying ‘Come to Daddy’ alone. Bjork’s ‘All is Full of Love’ is basically robot porn and is a major achievement of translated vision for this young filmmaker. All three DVDs come with a 52-page book full of
photographs, drawings and interviews. (Paul Dale)
disturb this wonderful idyll. we might ask. as Eddie (Kim Bodniai and Maria (Maria BonneVIei wile away their days in the Norwegian countryside? Perhaps the answer lies With Eddie's former friend and fellow con who comes to stay. Shot In under three weeks on a tiny budget. Holst's film is a small but rewarding achievement.

A girls' boarding school
is closed for the festive season and there Is a psycho on the loose. This Is obVIously not half as scary as it was perceived on its original release. but it does have enough nice shock twists and grueson‘e killings to keep the modern Viewer interested. Margot Kidder and Keir Dullea star. and Clark did of course eventually sell his soul to Satan when he scored the biggest hit of the 1980's with the puerile comedy Porky's. This is what straight to Video was made for - schlocky horror flicks that scream from the shelves but never deliver on Viewmg. Rock act Slash return to the lead singer's boyhood farm after a death in the family. Cue creepy redneck types and bodies getting chopped by a mysterious
scarecrow figure. There are sparks of ambition but mostly this falls flat. Films of this calibre need to make up for their shortcon‘ings with lashings of cheap thrills; It's their only route to redemption. But Slash :s woefully iax on the gore (iuota. There's t'ne reguisite open ending for a pt sszbe seguei but ‘et's nope things nexer get that far.
