J'uitiéte 'MActc CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
Honeycomb, Edinburgh, Thu 11 Dec
Jungle Magic makes a welcome return to Edinburgh this month with its first date in almost two years. The drum 8- bass club is doing a Christmas special, featuring two of the biggest names on the jungle scene.
‘We're looking to do no more than four extra special dates a year and bringing in two or three really big headliners every time,’ says promoter DJ Kid. ‘I mean, DJ Hype’s always been at the forefront of the industry and we’ve sold him out before, whereas Andy C's a relative newcomer who's rocketed right to the top. We could have filled the Honeycomb twice last
time he played.’
Andy C has indeed come a long way, starting out ‘making crappy music on computers' after his sister introduced him to the hardcore and acid house scene, and subsequently buying his first decks at 15. This year he’s a strong contender to win at the Knowledge Drum & Bass Awards (again), on top of being an international DJ, producer and RAM Records label boss. ‘I just got back from touring America the other day and every date really went off. It’s amazing to see how this scene has grown, how it’s mushroomed out of the UK and blossomed abroad,’ he says. ‘But drum 8. bass is still young, you know, compared to most other genres. And we've just got to carry on doing everything we can to make sure it keeps growing.’ (David Pollock)
